Why It Is Worth Visiting

Bazaruto Archipelago and Quirimbas (when accessible) - some of the best diving in the Indian Ocean. Tofo for whale shark snorkelling. Mozambique Island (Ilha de Mocambique), UNESCO Swahili-Portuguese trading port. Maputo - one of the more pleasant African capitals, strong Portuguese-Mediterranean food. Visa (with notes from the archive) Visa-on-arrival now available for most nationalities, but you still must apply for the e-visa at evisa.gov.mz first (1-2 days for approval). Eat at Piri Piri and Txhapo Txhapo (one of the trip-highlight restaurants per the archive). Tofo - backpacker beach, ocean safaris with whale sharks (June-November peak). Bazaruto and Vilanculos - dhow trips to sandbanks. Ilha de Mocambique - half-day from Nampula. UNESCO heritage. Best by air via Nampula or Pemba (when open). Avoid Cabo Delgado district - confirm whether Pemba is open before you book.
